A quick pair of latchet-shoes
*Again* my son doesn't have a single pair of shoes that fits and I'm still without news of the local shoe maker. Since I'm going on vacation soon and I have two back-to-back events when I return, 'lil miss Marie's begining to stress Big time !

So I decided to take mathers into my own hands and make him a cheap quick pair of latchet shoes, just in case. In my mind, a cheap pair is still better than no pair at all. So here's how it goes...
June 14, 2005
At the moment, my son's feet are just about the same size as mine so, since he's tired and not at all a very patient boy when he comes back from school, I made the molding (toile) on my own foot in order to draft a somewhat accurate pattern. The sole is made of black leather and the shoe itself is made of brown suede that I've cut out of an old coat.
Here's what the pieces look like when flat ;
It took me about 4 hours to make the pattern and to sew the first shoe. I'm not equiped at all to work with leather so, I did what I could with what thread and needles I had. Though our feet are the same length, mine are a bit lager than his so the shoe is a whee bit too big for him but I'm sure that in a month, his feet will have grown a bit more already and the whole thing will fit a little better.

Everything is handsewn and at the moment, my fingers are in deap pain so I won't be able to sew the other foot tonight... Tomorow perhaps
